HKTDC Executive Director Resigns to Head Airport Authority
17 June 2014 – The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) announced today that Executive Director Fred Lam has tendered his resignation from the Council to take up the post of Chief Executive Officer of the Airport Authority. The Council will set up a search committee to identify Mr Lam’s replacement.
HKTDC Chairman Jack So thanked Mr Lam for his long and dedicated service to the Council. “Fred has made great contributions to the Council during his 28 years of service. As Executive Director, he has led the HKTDC to become one of the top trade promotion organisations in the world.
“He is dedicated to serving small and medium-sized enterprises by helping them to expand their business globally, especially the Chinese mainland market.”
Trade Fair Expansion
Mr So said one of Mr Lam’s major contributions was the development of trade fairs. “Fred has not only helped grow many of our fairs into world leaders of their kind but has also transformed some of the traditional sourcing fairs into marketing platforms for new products. This evolution is crucial in enhancing Hong Kong’s position as trade fair capital of Asia. He also spearheaded the Atrium Link extension for the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, which has enabled many of our fairs to expand.”
Asia’s Central Business Hub
Mr Lam’s promotion of Hong Kong as Asia’s central business hub was another significant achievement, according to Mr So. “Fred has initiated many successful promotion campaigns in mature markets, as well as emerging markets, to promote Hong Kong’s advantages in services. In this, he has helped attract foreign companies to do business in this part of the world, especially with the mainland.”
Mr Lam joined the HKTDC in 1986, and has held many directorate posts. He was Deputy Executive Director from 1993 until 2004, when he was appointed Executive Director. Mr Lam will leave the Council at the end of September.
