Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers’ Contest Winners Announced
18 January 2012 – The Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers’ Contest 2012 awards ceremony took place last night, with Mak Chuen Chi named Overall Winner as well as Party & Evening-Wear Group Winner. Ms Mak will work in Tokyo, at ATSURO TAYAMA, for a month. The winners of the 36th Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers’ Contest 2012 are:
Overall Winner: Mak Chuen Chi: "Diving-Dance"
Party & Evening-Wear Group Winner: Mak Chuen Chi: "Diving-Dance"
Casual & Jeans-Wear Group Winner: Leung Ka Kin: "The Fear of Mr Alien"
Contemporary Day-Wear Group Winner: Cheung Chui Man: "The Establishment Soul"
"I’m thrilled with the honour of receiving two prizes," said Ms Mak. "YDC has given me a golden opportunity to broaden my horizons, interact and learn from other participants." Her collection, "Diving-Dance," was inspired by her passion for the sea, and black, her favourite colour. The black-and-fluorescent-yellow colours create strong contrast in her design. Ms Mak has adopted a novelty material for party wear. Neoprene’s sturdiness can create striking shapes, especially when mixed with soft chiffon.
