Top Photographer Wing Shya Commissioned for Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers’ Contest 2011
12 January 2011 – Leading Hong Kong photographer Wing Shya has acted as art director of photography for this year’s Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers’ Contest (YDC) finalist collections. In addition to his art directing duties, Mr Shya also personally captured portraits of the finalists.
For the last three decades, the YDC has been organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), and has identified and nurtured local design talent for the local fashion industry.
As a long-time supporter of local creativity, Mr Shya is pleased to handle the YDC photography and filming duties. “I’ve collaborated with many local fashion designer friends and quite a few of them have participated in the YDC,” he says.
“For this project, I photographed and filmed the finalists’ collections took their portraits as well. It’s great to get to know these young fashion designers, and I look forward to them demonstrating their talents and presenting Hong Kong’s strength in creativity to the world.”
The YDC photos and video taken by Mr. Shya can be seen at D-mop, 8 Kingston Street, Fashion Walk, Causeway Bay, from 4 to 24 January. The show is titled “Now and Then YDC by Wing Shya.”
Now in its 35th edition, the YDC final will be held on 18 January 2011 as a major event of the HKTDC Hong Kong Fashion Week for Fall/Winter and HKTDC World Boutique.
As in the past, there will be a winner in each category of Casual & Jeans-wear, Contemporary Day-wear and Party & Evening-wear as well as an overall contest winner. This year, 16 finalists have been selected from some 200 entries to compete for these four awards.
This year, renowned international designer Martine Sitbon, Creative Director of Rue du Mail is invited to be the VIP judge for YDC 2011. As well, Rue du Mail will sponsor the overall winner of the contest for a one-month internship at their headquarters in Paris.
