HKTDC welcomes Government’s further relaxation of quarantine measures for inbound travellers
23 September 2022 − The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) welcomes the Hong Kong SAR (HKSAR) Government’s announcement today to further relax quarantine measures, including responding to the business community’s calls to cancel the pre-flight PCR test requirement for international travellers to Hong Kong, and requiring instead a negative result proof of a Rapid Antigen Test 24 hours before boarding. These revised measures will help reactivate socio-economic activities, and facilitate the overall recovery of businesses and Hong Kong’s economic growth.
Dr Peter K N Lam, Chairman of the HKTDC, said, “We welcome the relaxation of quarantine measures for inbound travellers, which helps to attract more international business travellers to visit Hong Kong and to participate in international trade fairs and conferences. We believe these measures can strike a balance between public health and economic recovery, and help Hong Kong reconnect with the rest of the world. At the same time, the business community looks forward to quarantine-free travel between Hong Kong and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and other parts of Mainland China as soon as possible.”
Dr Lam said, “Although the pandemic has restricted international travel, our team at the HKTDC has been helping Hong Kong companies capture business opportunities through a range of digital and physical platforms. With this latest round of quarantine relaxation, we have lined up a full programme of our regular international trade fairs and conferences, and will redouble our efforts to attract overseas companies to come to Hong Kong. We will maintain our liaison with the HKSAR Government and the business community, and hope that international business travellers with an amber code during the three days of home medical surveillance can also participate in consumer events in addition to B2B fairs and conferences. As we continue to create opportunities for business, we also look forward to full resumption of normal international and cross-border travel soon.”
HKTDC’s upcoming schedule of trade fairs include Autumn editions of five technology fairs from 13 to 16 October, combining electronics, ICT, outdoor and lighting products, which adopt the HKTDC’s brand-new Exhibition+ model. This hybrid model comprises four key exhibition elements, namely HKTDC-organised physical fairs, the smart business-matching platform Click2Match, online-to-offline seminars under the Intelligence Hub and the hktdc.com sourcing platform to provide exhibitors and buyers with round-the-clock services to reach international buyers and capture business opportunities.
To promote the services sectors, every year the HKTDC organises a broad range of large-scale international conferences, including the second Asia Summit on Global Health and the Asian Logistics, Maritime and Aviation Conference, which will be staged in Hong Kong in November, and the Business of IP Asia Forum in December. The above events are co-organised by the HKSAR Government and the HKTDC.
The HKTDC will continue to provide start-ups and SMEs with business information and support services. For details, please visit our website https://www.hktdc.com/.
