“Belt and Road Challenge” Inter-school Contest
21 November 2018 – The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) is organising the “Belt and Road Challenge”, an inter-school contest to be produced and broadcast by Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB), supported by the Education Bureau of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administration Region (HKSARG) and the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG), and co-sponsored by MTR Corporation Limited.
Through this engaging contest produced by a leading media organisation, the HKTDC hopes to promote understanding of the economy, culture and history of different Belt and Road countries among secondary school students, and to encourage them to seize the development opportunities presented by the Belt and Road Initiative. The programme will be broadcast on TVB Jade every Saturday at 7:30pm starting from 1 December.
HKTDC Chairman Vincent HS Lo said: “The Belt and Road Initiative provides the younger generation with diverse development opportunities. The HKTDC is organising the ‘Belt and Road Challenge’ to encourage young people to expand their horizons and explore the cultural and economic landscape of different Belt and Road regions, hopefully inspiring them to work or start their businesses in these countries. They can travel, study and make new friends along the Belt and Road.”
HKTDC Belt and Road Committee Deputy Chairman Fredrick Ma said: “The ‘Belt and Road Challenge’ aims to help young people gain a better understanding of the development potential of different Belt and Road countries in a fun and engaging format, and to help them prepare themselves to seize the immense opportunities brought by globalisation.”
The advisory panel of the "Belt and Road Challenge" comprises Thomas Chan, Director of the One Belt One Road Research Institute of the Chu Hai College of Higher Education, Raymond Ho, Chairman of Dashun Foundation and Founding Chairman of the Belt and Road Global Development Alliance, and Nicholas Kwan, Director of Research of the HKTDC. The contest covers topics including "Belt and Road Basics", "Business & Economics" and "Culture", and is open for enrollment by all secondary school students in Hong Kong. The preliminary stage took place in the form of online quizzes from 24 to 30 September and was participated by 6,500 students from 88 secondary schools. The finals, to be held in TVB City in Tseung Kwan O, will feature guest participants from different sectors and broadcast on TVB Jade.
