Hong Kong International Jewellery Show Opens

Together with the International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show the world’s largest jewellery marketplace is formed in Hong Kong

2 March 2017 – The 34th Hong Kong International Jewellery Show opened today and runs through 6 March at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), the show features about 2,580 exhibitors from 39 countries and regions. They are showcasing a wide range of finished fine jewellery, including top-tier jewellery pieces, famous brands, new designer collections, as well as collectable jewellery art pieces and antique jewellery. The concurrent Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show, currently underway at the AsiaWorld-Expo, features a variety of raw jewellery materials. The two shows gather a total of about 4,480 exhibitors, forming the world’s largest marketplace for the jewellery industry.

HKTDC Deputy Executive Director Benjamin Chau said that this year’s International Jewellery Show, held under the theme “Tribute to Movie Queens”, features displays re-creating several classic movie scenes, enhancing the glamour of the exquisite jewellery on display.

Thematic zones match buyers’ needs
The HKTDC organised more than 110 buying missions, comprising over 7,400 buyers from some 70 countries and regions, to visit the two shows. Dedicated zones have been set up according to buyers’ sourcing requirements. Visitors looking for the most prestigious jewellery collections can visit the Hall of Extraordinary, featuring more than 100 exhibitors showcasing top-tier jewellery collections. Exhibitors include Novel Collection (Booth no.: 3B-C06) from Hong Kong, presenting a series of  prestigious diamond pieces, including a US$500,000 oval-shaped vivid purple-pink diamond ring; as well as Crossfor (Booth no.: 3B-B02) from Japan, showcasing jewellery using their patented “Dancing Stone” setting technique, including a US$160,000 rose necklace with 15 “dancing diamonds.” Other exhibitors include Butani Jewellery (Booth no.: GH-C02) and Lili Jewelry (Booth no.: 3B-C02) from Hong Kong, Kashikey (Booth no.: GH-E20) from Japan, CHQ (Booth no.: GH-E12) from Germany and CRIVELLI (Booth no.: GH-A10) from Italy.

At the Hall of Fame, buyers can find renowned jewellers from around the world, including The Fifth Season by Roberto Coin (Booth no.: 3B-E06) and Giorgio Visconti (Booth no.: 3B-D14) from Italy, Highend (Booth no.: 3B-E10) from Thailand, as well as celebrated jewellery designer Frank Wu’s eponymous label (Booth no.: 3B-D08) and Lao Feng Xiang (Booth no.: 3B-F14) from the Chinese mainland. Among the local brands are Lorenzo (Booth no.: 3B-D02) and Infinity Cross (Booth no.: 3B-F20). “Having built up a premium image among consumers, branded jewellery allows department stores, e-tailers and distributors to gain recognition from customers and thus improve the effectiveness of their promotion,” said Mr Chau.

Local jewellery industry sparkles
Hong Kong jewellers have long been sought-after by global buyers. World of Glamour gathers more than 400 local exhibitors, promoting fashionable jewellery pieces made in Hong Kong with fine craftsmanship. Exhibitors include Universal Jewellery Design Centre Ltd (Booth no.: 1E-C02), Aaron Shum Jewelry Ltd (Booth no.: 1D-D02), Brilliant Trading Company Ltd (Booth no.: 1C-F02) and LeGrand (Booth no.: 1E-A02). Buyers interested in unique and innovative designer brands can visit Designer Galleria, where several local and overseas budding designer brands offer the latest jewellery designs.

Elsewhere, Wedding Bijoux focuses on bridal jewellery and wedding rings; Treasures of Craftsmanship features pieces that blend jewellery with art while Antique & Vintage Jewellery Galleria highlights the charm of classic jewellery. Twenty group pavilions have also been set up, including the Chinese mainland, France, Germany, Italy, Israel and Peru, as well as new pavilions from Portugal and the Philippines. The T-GOLD+METS pavilion displays top-of-the-line professional jewellery and watchmaking machinery, equipment, technology and supplies, while the TRENDVISION Jewellery + Forecasting pavilion provides information about the latest product trends.

Promoting outstanding designs
The biennial International Jewellery Design Excellence Award marks its fifth edition this year. An award presentation will be held tonight to announce the winning pieces from 165 competing entries. Following the presentation, a Gala Dinner sponsored by Tanzanite Foundation will be held under the theme “Tribute to Movie Queens”, featuring a menu imbued with jewellery elements prepared by Chef Robert Fontana, ASEAN Chairman of Disciples Escoffier International Asia. Along with the culinary experience, guests will also be treated to musical performances from classic films, enhancing the ambience for networking.

Various seminar sessions and forums will be held during the fair period on such topics as diamond testing technology, gemstone laboratory report and opportunities in the mature market. The Creative Director & Forecaster of TRENDVISION Jewellery + Forecasting, Paola De Luca, will also host a seminar on Saturday to share her forecast on jewellery consumption and product trends. At the fairground, there will be a demonstration of Japanese Urushi lacquer craftsmanship as well as a number of jewellery parades and networking receptions for buyers to exchange market information.

The winning entries of the 18th Hong Kong Jewellery Design Competition and International Jewellery Design Excellence Award are on display at Hall 1D Concourse, highlighting the creativity of Hong Kong and overseas jewellery designers to global buyers.

Synergy with International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show
This is the fourth year that the HKTDC has adopted the “two shows, two venues” format for the twin jewellery shows. At the AsiaWorld-Expo, the fourth Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show kicked off on Tuesday and continues through Saturday. The show features more than 1,900 exhibitors. The three signature zones include the Hall of Fine Diamonds, gathering top diamond suppliers, Treasures of Nature, where precious gemstones and semi-precious stones are showcased, and Treasures of Ocean, presenting exquisite pearls. To facilitate buyers transiting between the two shows, a free shuttle bus service between AsiaWorld-Expo and downtown areas (including HKCEC) is provided from 2 to 4 March. Please consult the fair websites for more details.
