3 November 2016 – The fourth Lifestyle Expo in Dubai will take place from 6 to 7 November at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Deira, showcasing a wide range of consumer electronics and ICT products, gifts & premium, household products & electrical appliances, fashion and fashion accessories, and watches and clocks from more than 100 Hong Kong and mainland exhibitors.
The expo is jointly organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and the Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province. Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region John Tsang, who leads a high-level business delegation to Dubai, will officiate at the opening ceremony and deliver a keynote speech at the Hong Kong Networking Luncheon.
Hub to Hub Strategy
Speaking at the press conference, HKTDC Regional Director for Middle East and Africa Perry Fung, said: “This annual sourcing event is the perfect setting for realising the hub-to-hub synergy and potential business opportunities that exist between the UAE and Hong Kong. Both locations are at the doorstep to important markets in the Middle East and Africa region and Asia respectively.”
He added that the HKTDC will organise the second Hub-to-Hub Business Networking Forum during the expo to generate greater business synergy between exhibitors and buyers.
Global success
The Lifestyle Expo is one of the HKTDC’s signature international promotion events and has a successful track record in fostering trade between companies from Hong Kong and emerging markets worldwide including Russia, Poland, Turkey, India and Indonesia.
In Dubai, the HKTDC will arrange one-to-one business matching services during the expo to connect Hong Kong business people with those from the mainland, the United Arab Emirates and nearby countries, creating new partnership opportunities.
Seize sourcing opportunities at the expo
Hong Kong’s position as a lifestyle trendsetter in Asia will be highlighted at the expo’s two theme zones: the Style zone and the Home and Living zone, both of which will feature products from home-grown and mainland brands known for their quality and style.
Regional buyers can take advantage of customised business matching services provided by the HKTDC to connect with exhibitors from Hong Kong and the mainland. The “reverse exhibition” featuring several e-tailers and importers in the region will allow exhibitors extra opportunities to explore cooperation.
Big on small orders
Apart from the 100 Hong Kong and Chinese mainland exhibitors, another 20 companies will take part in the hktdc.com Small Orders showcase, where buyers can place orders of between five and 1,000 pieces. Around 1,000 importers, distributors, mass retailers, mail-order houses, department stores and specialised stores from the UAE, Africa and other neighbouring countries and regions are expected to take part in the two-day Lifestyle Expo in Dubai.
Belt and Road opportunities
The HKTDC Lifestyle Expo in Dubai highlights the enormous business opportunities emerging from China’s Belt and Road Initiative, which aims to connect markets spanning Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Europe. With strategic locations and sophisticated economies, both Hong Kong and Dubai are well positioned to benefit from the Initiative.
The HKTDC is committed to exploring business opportunities in the Middle East for Hong Kong SMEs while helping those from the Middle East and Africa to expand their business in Asia through the Hong Kong platform.
Reinforcing Hong Kong-UAE trade links
The UAE is Hong Kong's largest export market in the Middle East, and trade between the two presents an excellent opportunity to build new B2B (business-to-business) links along the Belt and Road.
Last year Hong Kong’s exports to the UAE amounted to US$6 billion. Major Hong Kong exports to the UAE in 2015 included pearls, precious and semi-precious stones (50.6% of total, up 85.4% year-on-year) and telecom equipment and parts (22% of total), and jewellery (4.7% of total).
