HK Designers’ Collections Launched at NY Fashion Week

Fashion Hong Kong Showcase Well-Received by Global Trendsetters

17 February 2016 – The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) supported three leading Hong Kong designers to participate in New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2016 last Friday (12 February), showcasing the city’s fashion creativity to industry elites and style influencers from around the world. At the Fashion Hong Kong Show organised by the HKTDC during New York Fashion Week, Harrison Wong, Hidy Ng and Polly Ho launched their Fall/Winter 2016 collections to a packed audience of industry representatives, buyers, media and fashion followers. The House of Fashion Hong Kong pop-up showroom in SoHo, the city’s fashion hub, also attracted a large number of visitors to interact with the designers and discuss opportunities for collaboration.

Set up by the HKTDC at Splashlight Studios in SoHo, The House of Fashion Hong Kong pop-up showroom hosted about 40 business matching meetings over four days (10-13 February), to promote networking and cooperation between the designers and fashion buyers. By showcasing their work at Fashion Hong Kong, the three designers hope to further explore market opportunities in the North American fashion scene.

Fashion Hong Kong comprises a series of overseas promotional events organised by the HKTDC to present Hong Kong fashion designers and their work to global audiences, including at the New York, Tokyo and Copenhagen Fashion Weeks. HKTDC Deputy Executive Director Raymond Yip said the Council has been promoting Hong Kong’s fashion industry through a number of dynamic activities such as organising trade shows, fashion designers’ contest and fashion shows, as well as supporting Hong Kong designers and brands to join overseas fashion weeks. “We will continue to lead local designers to take part in at major fashion weeks around the world through Fashion Hong Kong, to help them explore and develop the global markets,” he added.

HARRISON WONG by Harrison Wong specialises in edgy, aggressive designs that also emit an understated elegance. For his Fall/Winter 2016 Collection, Stone Lines, Harrison Wong takes inspiration from nature – earth and stone – and infuses these with the purity of modern minimalism

Launched in New York in 2003, HIDY N.G. by Hidy Ng offers luxury collections that are characterised by simple silhouettes and great attention to detail. The brand’s Fall/Winter 2016 Collection, Unruly Luxuriance, is inspired by an independent and elegant woman of the designer’s imagination

LOOM LOOP by Polly Ho embodies a mixture of traditional craftsmanship and a modern approach to contemporary individualism by using natural dye and sun exposure to develop patterns on delicate silk materials. Inspired by the tragic Chinese love story Butterfly Lovers, the brand’s Fall/Winter 2016 Collection, Androgynous, integrates a feminine look with structured tailoring and features prints in burgundy and dark forest colours inspired by the story
