HKTDC Teams up with Celebrated Local Doll Artist
14 January 2016 - Fashion is not only about apparel, it also reflects how our lifestyles are integrated with popular culture. The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) will stage Hong Kong Fashion Week for Fall/Winter from 18 to 21 January at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). This year, under the theme “Fashion of Music”, the HKTDC is joining hands with Ning Lau, founder of fashion website www.who-are-invited.com and celebrated local doll artist, to promote Hong Kong’s latest fashion trends. Ms Lau has created customised dolls to showcase the 2016 Fall/Winter collections of eight designers. The eight dolls will feature characteristics and styles of eight local fashion celebrities at Fashion Week, providing support to local designers.
The eight brands – DEMO. (by Derek Chan), MODEMENT (by Aries Sin), kenaxleung, KURT HO, 112mountainyam (by Mountain Yam), Blind by JW (by Walter Kong and Jessica Lau), HANG (by Mim Mak) and Lapeewee (by Yannes Wong) -- will showcase their 2016 Fall/Winter collections in FASHIONALLY COLLECTION #5 MENSWEAR and FASHIONALLY COLLECTION #6 on the fair’s opening day.
Also, eight local fashion celebrities, including stylist Inggrad Shek, photographer Miss Bean, Creative Director of Sequoia Lilian Ho, Interior designer of The Good Studio and owner of Picasso Creative Arts, Kaye Dong, Ten Outstanding Young Persons of 2014 and actress Kearen Pang, international eyewear brand RÉVE by Rene’s designer Rene Chu, owner of Liger Dorothy Hui and the Curator of PMQ Shin Wong, will attend the two showcases featuring the handmade dolls, to show their support for local young designers.
With 16 years in the fashion industry, including as Vice President of fashion brand JOYCE, Ms Lau established her online platform ninglau.com six months ago to share her favourite Doll Art culture. Her platform, to date, has attracted more than 10,000 followers, and her “Lazy Susan” Doll Exhibition received favourable comments from the public.
During Fashion Week for Fall/Winter, about 1,500 exhibitors from 21 countries and regions will showcase their latest designs and collections from international brands, fabrics and accessories. Nearly 30 fashion events, including fashion shows, fashion parades, seminars, forums and a networking reception will be held throughout the four-day event. The two fashion shows are presented by local fashion website FASHIONALLY, featuring designers from the Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers’ Contest (YDC). FASHIONALLY COLLECTION #5 MENSWEAR (2pm, 18 January) will feature menswear for the 2016 fall/winter season, with participating designers including DEMO (by Derek Chan), kenaxleung, KURT HO and MODEMENT (by Aries Sin). FASHIONALLY COLLECTION #6 (5pm, 18 January) will showcase women’s wear collections for the 2016 fall/winter season, with participating designers including 112mountainyam (by Mountain Yam), Blind by JW (by Walter Kong and Jessica Lau), Effie Hung, FromClothingOf (by Shirley Wong), HANG (by Mim Mak), KEVIN HO, Lapeewee (by Yannes Wong) and SHERMAN KWAN.
