Hong Kong Book Fair Open Public Forum Draws 700+ attendees
18 July 2015 – Sir David Tang led an entertaining Open Public Forum Friday night, with writer friends Alain de Botton, Simon Sebag Montefiore and Carol Thatcher, the daughter of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
The forum was part of the 26th HKTDC Hong Kong Book Fair (15-21 July) at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC). More than 700 book lovers attended the forum.
Mr de Botton is a television presenter, philosopher and author of 14 bestselling books including Essays in Love, which was adapted into the film My Last Five Girlfriends. He is known for presenting complex philosophical issues in a way that appeals to a wide selection of readers.
Mr Montefiore is renowned for his historical masterpieces such as Jerusalem: The Biography, and portrayals of personalities including Joseph Stalin. His book, Catherine the Great & Potemkin: The Imperial Love Affair appears set to become a biopic after actor/director Angelina Jolie’s production company, Jolie Pas, recently bought an option on the book.
Fascinating characters are also the focus of journalist and author Ms Thatcher, whose biographical subjects include her parents, Denis and Margaret Thatcher as well as tennis great Chris Evert. She has worked as a journalist for The Daily Telegraph, Daily Mail and the BBC.
