HKTDC Announces New Executive Director
26 September, 2014 – The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) announced today that Deputy Executive Director Margaret Fong will succeed Fred Lam as Executive Director, with effect from 1 October 2014.
The Council had set up a search committee, led by Chairman Jack So, to find the best candidate for the post of Executive Director by open recruitment. The committee was comprised of Gregory So, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the Hong Kong SAR Government, an ex-officio member of the Council, and three other Council Members.
The Council, a 19-member governing body of Hong Kong business leaders and senior government officials, endorsed unanimously the search committee’s recommendation to appoint Ms Fong as Executive Director. The announcement was made after the appointment had received the consent of Chief Executive, CY Leung, in accordance with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council Ordinance. Ms Fong joined the HKTDC in 2010.
HKTDC Chairman Jack So said: “Since joining us, Margaret has achieved significant success in leading our efforts to promote Hong Kong as Asia’s business hub and create opportunities for Hong Kong-based companies in developed and emerging markets. She has also been instrumental in fostering closer ties with our stakeholders and the community through the use of new media.
“Based on the solid foundations that Fred [Lam] has built, the Council and I look forward to working with Margaret to take the HKTDC to new heights.”
Executive Director-designate Ms Fong said: “I am honoured to be appointed to this role, and am delighted to have the opportunity to lead one of the world’s finest trade promotion organisations.
“The HKTDC has always been one step ahead in helping Hong Kong SMEs explore new frontiers. My challenge is to continue the momentum by delivering value to Hong Kong in a rapidly changing global environment.”
Ms Fong has served the HKTDC as Deputy Executive Director since 2010, overseeing the international promotion of Hong Kong’s product and service industries and the HKTDC’s network of more than 40 offices worldwide.
