Asia Summit on Global Health and Hong Kong International Medical and Healthcare Fair open tomorrow

Introducing a Silver Health Chapter and uniting industry leaders to explore collaboration opportunities

25 May 2025 The International Healthcare Week (IHW), coordinated by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), will officially commence tomorrow. Two flagship events will take place concurrently: the Asia Summit on Global Health (ASGH), jointly organised by the HKSAR Government and the HKTDC, will be held on 26 and 27 May at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC); while the Hong Kong International Medical and Healthcare Fair (Medical Fair), organised by the HKTDC and co-organised by the Hong Kong Medical and Healthcare Device Industries Association (HKMHDIA), will run from 26 to 28 May. The two events together will feature the entire healthcare industry value chain, including scientific research and technology, start-ups, investment in research and development, medical devices, manufacturing and services, showcasing Hong Kong’s pivotal role as a regional leading MedTech hub.

Themed as Fostering Global Collaboration for a Shared Future, the fifth ASGH focuses on critical issues in public health, medical technology breakthroughs, and global business and investment collaboration, and aims to strengthen cross-border partnerships in healthcare investment and innovation among Mainland China, Hong Kong and the international community.

On the first day of ASGH, John Lee, Chief Executive of the HKSAR, will deliver the opening remarks, Dr Peter K N Lam, Chairman of the HKTDC will give the welcome remarks and Prof Cao Xuetao, Vice-Minister of the National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China, will present special remarks.

A series of thematic panel discussions focusing on key issues will follow, including Plenary Session I: Shaping a More Equitable and Sustainable Health System, featuring keynote remarks by Prof Lo Chung-mau, Secretary for Health of the HKSAR Government, and Feng Haicang, Level I Bureau Rank Official of Department of Consumer Goods Industry, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China. The session will then be moderated by Prof Tsui Lap-chee, Chairman of the University of Hong Kong Foundation for Educational Development and Research, with distinguished speakers including Dr Victor Yosef Melt Campos, Chair (2024-2025) of  APEC Health Working Group and General Director of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Health of Peru; Prof Nancy Ip, President of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology; Dr Wu Xiaobin, Vice President of China Pharmaceutical Innovation and Research Development Association and Martin Taylor, Representative to China, World Health Organization.

In response to ageing population challenges and emerging investment opportunities in the silver economy, this year’s summit will launch a new Silver Health Chapter. Prof Jean Woo, Director of Chinese University of Hong Kong Jockey Club Institute of Ageing, along with geriatric medicine experts from around the world, will explore how innovation in medical technology can address population ageing. To further promote global healthcare collaboration, there will be multiple one-on-one matchmaking sessions, ASGH Deal-Making. In addition, the ASGH Business Hub and InnoHealth Showcase will feature more than 170 innovative technology companies and award-winning projects from 13 countries and regions including the mainland (Shanghai and Xiamen), Australia, and Thailand, highlighting the latest advancements in cutting-edge medical technology.

The Medical Fair, themed Innovations Boosting Smart Health Experience, will feature some 300 exhibitors from 13 countries and regions. Participating with pavilions for the first time are Israel, Thailand, and the United Kingdom, along with debut exhibitors from Singapore, Germany, Italy and Luxembourg. The exhibition features multiple zones, including Biotechnology, Hospital Equipment, Rehabilitation and Elderly Care Products, Start-ups, and the HKMHDIA Pavilion zones. This year’s fair highlights three major areas: cutting-edge medical technologies, gerontechnology, and green solutions, featuring a wide spectrum of the latest medical health devices, products, and applications.

Several concurrent events will be held during the fair, including forums and networking receptions designed to keep the industry abreast of market developments. A key highlight, The Latest Development of Regulatory Collaboration on Medical Devices in the Greater Bay Area forum (27 May), will bring together experts from the Greater Bay Area Center for Medical Device Evaluation and Inspection, National Medical Products Administration; the Medical Device Division of Department of Health and SGS-CSTC Standards Technical Services Co., Ltd., to explore the latest developments, management systems, and regulations in relevant fields.

Another flagship event is The MedTech Nexus of the Greater Bay Area (27 May), which is co-organised with the HKMHDIA. Industry experts will share insights on intellectual property strategies for biopharmaceutical innovation, cross-border financial solutions for medical enterprises, the development of cross-border health data, and successful experiences in promoting medical technology in the Greater Bay Area.

We invite you or your representatives to cover these two major events.
