FILMART 2025 set to open tomorrow

Ne Zha 2 team to reveal production insights and AI-driven industry future

16 March 2025 - The 29th Hong Kong International Film and Television Market (FILMART), organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), will take place from 17-20 March at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. As Asia's premier entertainment content trading platform, this year's FILMART will bring together more than 760 exhibitors from 34 countries and regions, featuring more than 30 regional pavilions. This year, FILMART welcomes new pavilions from Australia, Cambodia, France, India, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and Vietnam, and while emerging markets including Armenia, Czech and Kazakhstan join for the first time, further enhancing the event's cultural diversity.

As a flagship event of Art March Hong Kong, FILMART's opening day will feature the Entertainment Expo Hong Kong 2025 launch ceremony. Distinguished guests include Chan Kwok-ki, Chief Secretary for Administration of the Hong Kong SAR; Rosanna Law, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Hong Kong SAR; Dr Peter K N Lam, Chairman of the HKTDC, Yan Ni, Deputy Director General of International Cooperation Department of the National Radio and Television Administration, and Hong Kong entertainment ambassador Leon Lai, joining together to launch this annual industry event.

Debut of Producers Connect and AI Hub spearhead industry evolution

A key highlight of this year's FILMART is the launch of “Producers Connect”, a joint initiative by the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau (CSTB), Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDA), the Hong Kong Film Development Council (FDC), and HKTDC. With film production at its core, this dedicated programme features specialised sharing sessions and business matching activities, creating unprecedented opportunities for global producers with a valuable platform for networking, financing, learning, and career advancement within the film industry. Through international exposure, producers can gain valuable industry insights and forge connections leading to co-production opportunities, distribution agreements, and global collaborations.

FILMART 2025 will also debut the AI Hub pilot project, co-organised by HKTDC, the Association of Motion Picture Post Production Professionals (AMP4), and the Movie Producers and Distributors Association of Hong Kong (MPDA). Through curated exhibition zones and various activities, the AI Hub will showcase AI applications across pre-production, visual effects, and sound design, including virtual production, AI restoration and generative imaging, and AI character creation, demonstrating how this technology is revolutionising film and television production processes.

EntertainmentPulse spotlights on new industry opportunities

Running concurrently with FILMART, EntertainmentPulse convenes global entertainment industry leaders to explore pressing topics including cross-border co-production, ASEAN entertainment markets, Asian animation industry, and streaming content trends. Riding on the global phenomenon of animated film Ne Zha 2, the conference session Gearing up for the AI Opportunities will feature Yu Zhixin, producer of Hong Li Animation Studios, and Liu Baoyu, Vice General Manager of Heguang Post-Production, sharing insights on AI-powered special effects production and examining the transformative potential of AI technology across creative and production domains.

Marking its 21st edition, the Entertainment Expo Hong Kong 2025 runs from 16 March to 27 April, and encompasses nine signature events namely FILMART, Hong Kong International Film Festival, Hong Kong Film Awards (HKFA), the Asian Film Awards(AFA), the Digital Entertainment Summit (DES), EntertainmentPulse, Hong Kong - Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF), Microfilm Production Support Scheme (Music), and the debut Hong Kong Film Music Fiesta reinforcing Hong Kong's position as Asia's leading entertainment capital.
