BIP Asia Forum and Entrepreneur Day open tomorrow
Explore the impact of IP on innovation, entrepreneurship, and expansion opportunities for SMEs and startups
4 December 2024 – The 14th Business of IP Asia Forum (BIP Asia Forum), jointly organised by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government (HKSAR) and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), and the 16th Entrepreneur Day (E-Day), hosted by the HKTDC, will be held concurrently on Thursday 5th and Friday 6th December at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Eric Chan, Chief Secretary for Administration of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and Hu Wenhui, Deputy Commissioner of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), and Dr Peter K N Lam, Chairman of the HKTDC will speak at the opening ceremony.
BIP Asia Forum and E-Day will feature a mix of forums, exhibitions, competitions, workshops, and business matching sessions, providing a platform for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and start-ups to explore the potential of intellectual property (IP), understand market trends, and connect with potential investors or business partners to seek business expansion opportunities.
Themed “Reimagining IP for Impact and Growth”, BIP Asia Forum will explore the impact of IP on innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic development. More than 100 IP owners, users, investors, experts and business leaders from around the world will share their insights on the vast potential of IP and its commercialisation.
Representatives from Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, Peninsula Merchandising Limited, and Xiaomi will share their IP strategies at the Plenary Session. The revamped Global Tech Summit, a joint initiative between BIP Asia and E-Day, will explore the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on various industries and the path to success for start-ups. Other thematic sessions will discuss IP valuation and financing, the IP of popular Korean dramas, webcomics, web novels, and ethical issues related to AI. The Innovation and IP Market exhibition area, themed “Smart City Innovation”, will feature more than 60 exhibitors from universities, R&D centres, enterprises and service providers.
Taking place concurrently and themed “Where Start-up Dreams Take Flight”, the 16th E-Day will bring together more than 340 start-ups, inventor projects, and start-up support services from 13 countries and regions.
This year, E-Day will welcome the first-ever Thailand pavilion, organised by the Department of International Trade Promotion under the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand, which will feature 10 key start-ups from Thailand. The Australian pavilion, led by Investment New South Wales (NSW), will also participate for the second consecutive year.
Alice Mak, Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs will deliver opening remarks at the Symposium of Hong Kong Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the Greater Bay Area. Meanwhile, “Start-up Express International” returns for its third edition during E-Day and features seven global start-up award winners who will share their entrepreneurial experiences and industry insights at the “Start-up Express International – Meet the Global Winners” session tomorrow.
The HKSAR's Digital Policy Office, joining E-Day for the first time, will showcase more than 30 award-winning projects, to promote outstanding local technology innovation projects. The HKTDC and Hang Seng Bank's one-stop platform, InnoClub, will also host the InnoClub Award Presentation Ceremony and Networking Reception to recognise the outstanding achievements of its members and enable award winners to share their success stories.
