11 November 2024 – Following the Resolution of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and support measures proposed in the latest Policy Address to reinforce Hong Kong’s status as an international shipping centre and aviation hub, the 14th Asian Logistics, Maritime and Aviation Conference (ALMAC), co-organised by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), will be held on 18 to 19 November at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Themed “Shaping the Future of Supply Chains: Resilience and Sustainability”, this year’s ALMAC will gather an impressive line-up of around 80 senior government officials and industry leaders in the logistics, maritime, aviation and supply chain management services sectors representing a wide range of countries and regions, including Middle East, Central Asia and other regions, to explore business opportunities and address the latest developments in the logistics and supply chain management industry.
Chan Kwok-ki, Chief Secretary for Administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), will deliver Special Remarks in the afternoon on the first day (18 November), followed by FU Xuyin, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Transport of the People's Republic of China; Loke Siew Fook, Minister of Transport, Malaysia, H.E. Heng Nan, Secretary of State of Ministry of Public Works and Transport, Kingdom of Cambodia, H.E. Saysongkham Manodham, Vice Minister of Public Works and Transport Lao PDR and Nguyen Xuân Sang, Deputy Minister of Transportation of Vietnam.
In response to three major trends in the logistics service industry including supply chain diversification and market opportunities, sustainability and green energy, and innovation and technology, this year’s ALMAC will feature some 20 thematic forums and workshops, including Keynote Address, Air Freight Forum, Supply Chain Management and Logistics Forum, Logtech Forum and the newly launched Green Energy Forum. ALMAC will also showcase the latest supply chain management and logistics technology solutions from some 90 exhibitors in three exhibition zones including Logtech Salon, Supply Chain Management and Logistics Services, and Maritime and Port Services.
A Global Spectrum forum “Navigating Global Supply Chains for Inclusive Growth” will be held in the afternoon on the first day. Shamika N. Sirimanne, Director, Division on Technology and Logistics, United Nations Conference on Trade and Development will discuss how governments and enterprises can mitigate the impact of adverse factors, such as rising geopolitical uncertainties and extreme weather on supply chains, and share plans to promote economic recovery.
Two new sessions
This year’s conference will feature two new sessions covering supply chain challenges and the latest developments in green energy. “Navigating New Trade Lines for Mitigating Disruptions” will be held on the first day featuring Wilson Kwong, Chief Executive, Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals; Eng. Loay Mashabi, Managing Director, Saudia Cargo; David O. King, Senior Vice President, Commercial, SEKO Logistics; Delia Sun, Global Head of Supply Chain, DKSH; and Louis Tang, Managing Director, Ocean Network Express (East Asia) as speakers. They will discuss the opportunities presented by new trade routes and how to diversify supply chains and minimise risks through emerging markets in Asia and Middle East.
Another debut session, “Green Energy Forum: Energy Transition towards Net Zero Emissions”, will be held on the second day (19 November) to support the Policy Address’s goal to develop Hong Kong into a green international maritime centre. The session will explore strategies and technologies to facilitate the energy transition, such as the use of hydrogen, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and biofuels, and advancements in energy storage solutions.
The “Logtech Forum: Amplifying Digital Supply Chains through Innovation and Integration” session will be held on the first day to explore strategies for seamlessly integrating technologies across supply chains, enabling real-time visibility and data-driven decision-making, and streamlining operations to optimise overall logistics and supply chain management.
The Hong Kong’s NextGen Logistician Awards Presentation Ceremony will take place on the second day of the conference. It is a new annual award for the logistics industry advocated by the Transport and Logistics Bureau in the Action Plan on Modern Logistics Development and jointly organised by the Hong Kong Shippers' Council and the Hong Kong Logistics Association with the support of the Hong Kong Logistics Development Council and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. It aims to recognise young talents in the logistics industry who have made significant achievements and shown remarkable potential in innovative, high-end, smart and green logistics. The Under Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Liu Chun-san, will attend the Ceremony.
