Eco Expo Asia kicks off tomorrow

Exploring latest trends in environmental protection

    

29 October 2024 ─ The 19^th Eco Expo Asia, jointly organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd., and co-organised by the Environment and Ecology Bureau of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), will be held at AsiaWorld-Expo from 30 October to 2 November.

 

Tse Chin-wan, Secretary for Environment and Ecology of the HKSAR Government, will be the guest of honour at the opening ceremony, with officials from the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, National Development and Reform Commission and Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People’s Republic of China in attendance.

 

Themed “Fostering Green Innovations for Carbon Neutrality”, this year’s Eco Expo Asia attracts over 300 exhibitors from 11 countries and regions, showcasing innovative technologies and solutions in areas such as new energy, waste management and ESG-related. Electric vehicles and charging equipment will be shown in the Green Transportation zone, while for the first time several world-leading ESG certification and consultancy companies will exhibit in the Green Finance and ESG-related Services zone.

 

On 2 November, Eco Expo will be open to the public free of charge. A series of public talks will be held, including an ESG Career Talk and seminars presented by representatives from the Hong Kong Observatory, Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, Environmental Protection Department and Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department of the HKSAR Government.

 

Government officials and industry leaders from countries and regions, such as Laos, Saudi Arabia, Myanmar, Brunei and Vietnam, will share insights on various environmental issues at the Eco Asia Conference. More programme highlights from the fair are listed below.

30 October (Wednesday)

• Opening Ceremony of Eco Expo Asia cum Eco Asia Conference: Government Session

  • Guest of Honour of Opening Ceremony: Tse Chin-Wan, Secretary for Environment and Ecology, HKSAR Government
  • Eco Asia Conference – Government Session: Officials from National Development and Reform Commission and Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People’s Republic of China will deliver speeches.  Representatives from Laos, Saudi Arabia, Myanmar, Brunei and Vietnam will introduce local environmental policies and projects.

 

• Eco Asia Conference - Decarbonisation & Expanding the Boundaries of New Energy

  • Industry experts will explore new energy technologies, innovations and applications. Speakers include Ir Don Cheng, Head of Commercial, Hong Kong Utility and Head of Sustainable Green Energy Hub, The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas), and Henry Hooi, Founder, Volar Air Mobility.

 

31 October (Thursday)

• Hydrogen Economy Forum

  • Latest updates on the implementation, production and storage of hydrogen in the green economy. Speakers include representatives from the Hong Kong and China Gas Co Ltd (Towngas), Arup, CIMC ENRIC, Sinopec and TUV Rheinland .

 

1 November (Friday)

• Eco Asia Conference – Green Innovation & Technology towards Carbon Neutrality in Built Environment
  • 11am-1pm
  • Seminar Room, Hall 3, AsiaWorld-Expo
  • The seminar will explore the latest green technologies in infrastructure and building and the move towards carbon neutral development as part of Hong Kong’s ambition to become a global green technology hub. Speakers include Howard Lee, Associate Director, Green Tech, Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation; Ir Dr Conrad Wong, Vice Chairman, Yau Lee Holdings Limited; and Ir Dr Bruce Chong, Fellow and Director, Climate & Sustainability, ARUP.

   

• Eco Asia Conference - 360° Embracing Circular Economy

  • The seminar will explore issues related to food waste management, eco-design and labelling. Speakers include Benjamin Kwong, Senior Environmental Protection Officer, Waste Reduction and Community Recycling, Environmental Protection Department; Phoebe Leung, Senior Sustainable Development Manager, Swire Properties; and Dr Amie Lai, General Manager, Sustainability, Great Eagle Holdings Limited.

 

• ESG Business Exchange

  • Industry experts will discuss ESG trends and discoveries in green procurement solutions. Speakers include Dr Raymond Wong, Project Committee Convenor, iRecycle Charity Foundation; Patrick Chan, Assistant General Manager – Property Management, Link REIT; Johnny Yu, Advisor to Chairman, Henderson Land Group; Stephen Chan, Senior Sustainability Manager, MTR Corporation; and Phyllis Ng, CEO, Baguio Green Group.

 

2 November (Saturday) Public Day

• Green Living Seminars – AM Session

  • Eliza Chan, Chief Experimental Officer, Hong Kong Observatory will speak on the topic of ‘How Does Climate Change Affect Health?’
  • Barry Ng, Senior Electrical and Mechanical Engineer and Raymond Yuen, Electrical and Mechanical Engineer, Energy Efficiency Office (EEO), Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) will share ‘Energy Labelling Scheme and Energy Saving Tips’ and demonstrate practical energy conservation methods in homes and offices.

   

• Future Green Leaders – ESG Career Talk

  • Green Mart, Seminar Room, Hall 6, AsiaWorld-Expo
  • Speakers include Derek Wu, Lead Consultant APAC, Climate and Nature, AXA Climate and Mark Cheung, Co-Founder of NESS (Network of Environmental Student Societies), they will provide career advice and tips on how to get started in the industry.

 

• Green Living Seminars – PM Session
  • 2:15pm-3:45pm
  • Seminar Room, Hall 3, AsiaWorld-Expo
  • Professor Kenneth Leung, Dean of the School of Energy and Environment & Director of The City University of Hong Kong, will share his views on ‘Creating Living Shorelines through Ecological Engineering’.    
  • Dr Kim-fung Leung, Senior Environmental Protection Officer of the Environmental Protection Department and Dr Jim Chu, Assistant Director (Fisheries and Marine Conservation) of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department will share findings on water quality improvement in Victoria Harbour and the application of AI in red tide monitoring.
