Asia Summit on Global Health and Hong Kong International Medical and Healthcare Fair open tomorrow

Experts and talents explore collaboration opportunities in healthcare

 

15 May 2024 – The third International Healthcare Week (IHW), organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), commenced today. IHW’s two flagship events are the fourth Asia Summit on Global Health (ASGH), co-organised by the HKTDC and the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), and the 15th Hong Kong International Medical and Healthcare Fair (Medical Fair), organised by the HKTDC. ASGH will be held from 16 to 17 May, and the Medical Fair will run from 16 to 18 May.

 

Themed Innovation · Inclusion · Impact, this year’s ASGH Plenary Sessions will explore the challenges of and opportunities in the global medical and healthcare sector, the latest developments in medtech and business opportunities in Asia’s medical and healthcare sector.

 

Thematic sessions will focus on forward-looking issues, with discussions on the latest development trends of healthcare-related industries.

 

ASGH deal-making includes investment project pitching sessions and one-on-one meetings to promote dialogue and collaboration among project owners and investors. Several medical and healthcare enterprises will sign cooperation agreements on-site.

 

The InnoHealth Showcase and dedicated exhibition will feature medical investment projects and new technologies from around the world.

 

On the first day of ASGH, Mr John Lee, Chief Executive of the HKSAR, will deliver opening remarks, followed by welcome remarks from Dr Peter K N Lam, Chairman of the HKTDC, and special remarks by Prof Cao Xuetao, Vice-Minister of the National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China.

 

Prof Lo Chung-mau, Secretary for Health of the HKSAR, and He Yaqiong, Director General of the Consumer Goods Industry Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People’s Republic of China, will deliver special remarks at Plenary Session I – Unleashing Opportunities: Co-create a Synergistic Ecosystem for Health Innovation.

 

Meanwhile, there will be a keynote session by Prof Roger Kornberg, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry in 2006 and Mrs. George A. Winzer Professor in Medicine & Professor of Structural Biology of the Stanford University School of Medicine, during Plenary Session II Innovation · Inclusion · Impact on the first morning of the summit.

 

The Medical Fair will feature some 300 exhibitors from eight countries and regions. With the theme of Innovations Boosting Smart Health Experience, this year’s event features eight exhibition zones, including Biotechnology, Hospital Equipment, Rehabilitation and Elderly Care Products, World of Health and Wellness, Medical Supplies and Disposables, Laboratory Equipment and Manufacturing Solutions and Start-up Zone.

 

The Medical Fair welcomes a host of leading research and academic institutions, including six local universities, The Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) and the Hong Kong Medical and Healthcare Device Industries Association (HKMHDIA) as exhibitors. They will showcase cutting-edge medical equipment, health monitoring products and the latest developments in Chinese medicine and supplements.

 

Furthermore, the Medical Fair will highlight several groundbreaking innovations in areas, such as telemedicine technologies, medical technology solutions powered by AI and robotics and cold chain logistics solutions with real-time monitoring of medicine delivery status.
