17th AFF opens tomorrow

Financial, economic, and political leaders gather in Hong Kong to explore multilateral cooperation opportunities

23 January 2024 – The 17th Asian Financial Forum 2024 (AFF), co-organised by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), is set to take place on 24 and 25 January (tomorrow and Thursday) at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). This year’s AFF, themed Multilateral Cooperation for a Shared Tomorrow, will be the first significant financial and business event in the region this year, bringing together over a hundred speakers, influential figures in the financial industry, global policymakers and business leaders. The discussions will focus on the importance of multilateral cooperation, exploring sustainable economic development models while showcasing Hong Kong's advantages as an international financial centre.

The Opening Session will feature welcome remarks from Dr Peter KN Lam, Chairman of the HKTDC, opening remarks by John Lee, Chief Executive of the HKSAR and special remarks by Li Yunze, Minister of National Financial Regulatory Administration (NFRA). The two highlighted speakers for this year's Forum are Prof Jeffrey D Sachs, President of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, and Prof Douglas W Diamond, Nobel Laureate in Economic Sciences in 2022 and Merton H Miller, Distinguished Service Professor of Finance at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business. They will deliver speeches at the Keynote Luncheons on both days, sharing their unique insights on topics such as sustainable development, trends in US Federal Reserve interest rates, and future economic risks.

This year's Forum will include more than 40 thematic discussions, plenary sessions, policy dialogue, keynote luncheons, breakfast panel, and workshops. The Plenary Sessions will be expanded to two, and two new discussion sessions on Stewarding China's New Chapter and CIO Insights will be introduced to spotlight opportunities in Mainland China, ASEAN, and the Middle East. The Forum will also feature exhibition zones, including the Fintech Showcase, Fintech HK Startup Salon, the InnoVenture Salon, and the Global Investment Zone. These zones aim to support the development of startups and introduce potential projects. Another highlight of the Forum is the AFF Deal-making platform, which allows participants to engage in one-on-one meetings and connect with funds and investment projects from around the world. After the Forum concludes, participants can continue exploring key opportunities in different fields through virtual meetings using the online matching services until 30 January (Tuesday).

We cordially invite you or your representatives to attend the event. Details are as follows:
