8th Belt and Road Summit set to launch
Celebrating a decade of success for the initiative and showcasing event highlights
30 August 2023 – The eighth Belt and Road Summit, jointly organised by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), returns in fully face-to-face mode on 13 and 14 September (Wednesday and Thursday) at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative and the summit will invite about 80 government officials and business leaders from Belt and Road countries and regions to discuss achievements over the past decade and explore opportunities during the summit.
The Middle East has developed substantially and has become a Belt and Road hub. This year’s summit will feature the Middle East Forum, assembling speakers, corporations, and investors from the region to analyse developments in Belt and Road Initiative economies. The summit will also inaugurate the Finance Chapter and Youth Chapter, where financial leaders and young entrepreneurs discuss how Hong Kong can leverage its advantages in financial services and youth power to contribute to Belt and Road countries and seize business opportunities.

Algernon Yau, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the HKSAR; Dr Peter K N Lam, Chairman of the HKTDC; Margaret Fong, Executive Director of the HKTDC; and Julina Chan, Director-General of the Belt and Road Office of the HKSAR Commerce and Economic Development Bureau will discuss achievements and future strategies of the HKSAR Government and HKTDC in promoting the initiative, as well as introduce summit details.
