ASGH, Medical Fair flagship Healthcare Week
A set of medical events create a comprehensive platform to explore collaboration in the global healthcare sector
10 May 2023 – The second International Healthcare Week, driven by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), will open next week. The flagship events are the third Asia Summit on Global Health (ASGH) co-organised by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and the HKTDC, and the 14th edition of the HKTDC Hong Kong International Medical and Healthcare Fair. The summit will run on 17 and 18 May (Wednesday and Thursday), with the first day in-person at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) and second day entirely virtual. The physical Hong Kong International Medical and Healthcare Fair will run from 16 to 18 May (Tuesday to Thursday).
Under the theme of Reimagining the Future of Healthcare, ASGH will assemble more than 90 stakeholders – from healthcare experts to renowned academics and influential business leaders, together with key industry players, innovative start-ups, investors and policymakers from around the world – to exchange insights, explore opportunities and collaborate on the diverse and dynamic healthcare sector.
In the Opening Session, HKSAR Chief Executive John Lee will deliver opening remarks while HKTDC Chairman Dr Peter K N Lam will give welcoming remarks. Member, Leading Party Members’ Group, National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China; Secretary, Leading Party Members' Group and Deputy Director, National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine Yu Yanhong will also address the summit as a guest speaker. Meanwhile, Secretary for Health Prof Lo Chung-mau will deliver special remarks in the Plenary Session: Reimagining the Future of Healthcare and Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry Prof Sun Dong will deliver special remarks in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area as the Powerhouse of Healthcare Innovation session.
The Hong Kong International Medical and Healthcare Fair brings together more than 300 exhibitors; the physical exhibition will be held from 16 to 18 May (Tuesday to Thursday). The Fair, themed Unleash the Power of Smart Health, has set up multiple zones such as Biotechnology, Hospital Equipment, Rehabilitation and Elderly Care, World of Health and Wellness as well as the exclusive exhibition area of the Hong Kong Medical and Healthcare Device Industries Association (HKMHDIA) and Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks exhibition hall and more. These medical technology and instrument, healthcare product and related service showcases let industry insiders grasp the development trend of the medical industry in an all-round way and source the latest products and services. Highlighted products include a robotic exoskeleton, 5G hearing aid, Hospital Delivery Robot, Negative pressure wound therapy system, Home Hospice service and more. During a media tour on the opening day some exhibitors will introduce medical technology solutions and products.
The HKMHDIA Medical Fair Forum, sponsored by the HKMHDIA and the HKTDC as a strategic partner, was also held on the first day, 16 May. Under the theme Hong Kong as the International MedTech Hub, this year’s forum invited industry experts to explain the instructions for setting up medical technology enterprises in Hong Kong and mainland cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and deconstruct the medical technology ecosystems of the two places. Overseas medical technology enterprises have been invited to share their experience in developing medtech businesses.
