17th Eco Expo Asia showcasing green energy opens tomorrow

Hybrid EXHIBITION+ event features hydrogen bus and other green innovations

13 December 2022 – The transformation to low-carbon energy will be a key feature at this year’s Eco Expo Asia, in line with the theme Green Innovations for Carbon Neutrality.

The Eco Expo Asia 2022, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd and co-organised by the Environment and Ecology Bureau of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), will take place from 14 to 17 December at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC), with the last day open to the public free of charge.

The Expo will deploy the HKTDC’s EXHIBITION+ model. In addition to access to the physical Expo, exhibitors and buyers can also log in to the smart business matching platform Click2Match for an extended period until 24 December to access new trade channels and build business ties. The Expo is expected to attract more than 240 exhibitors from nine countries and regions. Tse Chin-wan, Secretary for Environment and Ecology, HKSAR Government, will officiate at the opening ceremony.

This year’s Expo is themed Green Innovations for Carbon Neutrality. As set out in this year’s Policy Address by Chief Executive John Lee, the HKSAR aims to expedite low‑carbon transformation of transport by testing new-generation electric taxis, hydrogen fuel cell electric double‑deckers and heavy vehicles in 2023.

The Eco Expo Asia’s Green Transportation Zone will showcase the latest electric and new energy vehicles to help the industry seize business opportunities. Wisdom Motors (HK) Limited, the largest exhibitor at the Expo this year, will display a variety of new energy vehicles, including a hydrogen-fuelled single-deck bus, allowing the public to experience the benefits of hydrogen technology, and a double-deck electric bus already in operation. Richburg Corporation Limited will display newly improved and upgraded electric cars, while JC Motor Limited will showcase the latest electric taxis.

This year’s Expo has attracted exhibitors from around the world, including the much-anticipated return of the Japan and Canada pavilions. The Japan pavilion will offer the largest line-up in the history of the Expo. Other highlighted zones include Waste Treatment and Circular Economy, Green Buildings and Energy Efficiency and Green Finance & ESG-related Services. The highly awaited Start-up Zone will demonstrate green innovations and technology developed by Hong Kong entrepreneurs, underlining the growth potential of the green industry.

As the Expo’s key event, this year’s Eco Asia Conference has invited industry experts and scholars from across the globe to share their expert insights on the latest developments and trends of the industries.

At the Forum, industry leaders will share the latest market intelligence on green and sustainable finance in Mainland China, Hong Kong and the rest of the world and discuss Hong Kong’s role as a regional carbon trading market.

The last day of the Expo (17 December) will be open to the public with free admission.  A series of environmental protection seminars, green-focused workshops and immersive activities infused with virtual reality (VR) elements will be held to encourage the public to practise green living.
