HKTDC Entrepreneur Day Opens Next Friday
12 May 2017 – Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), the ninth HKTDC Entrepreneur Day will be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) on 19-20 May. The two-day fair is expected to attract over 270 exhibitors offering the latest opportunities and support services for entrepreneurs, and will feature exhibitions, seminars, forums, pitching sessions and more.
The two-day Start-up Runway organised under the theme “Vision Explorer: Venturing into the Future” will hold seminars, discussing a range of technology trends and business opportunities. More than 40 entrepreneurs and start-up professionals from various sectors will offer practical tips and share their entrepreneurial experience with audiences during the fair. Speakers include:
- Simon Loong, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder, WeLab, which is ranked among of the top 100 Fintech companies in the world (#6 in China, #33 globally)
- Terence Kwok, Co-Founder and CEO, Tink Labs Limited, which recently completed a US$125 million round of series C financing
- Shing Chow, Founder and CEO, Lalamove
- Dr. Samson Tam, Partner, Hong Kong Innovation Angel Investment. Dr Tam’s entrepreneurial journey was featured as a Harvard Business School case study
- Gene Soo, Co-Founder and Director, StartupsHK
- James Hong, Director, Akio Co., Ltd
- Antonia Li, Research Analyst, Oddup
- Jason Chiu, Chief Executive Officer, cherrypicks
To help start-ups make connections, the HKTDC is working with the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups to organise Start-up Mixer – a “speed dating” event that allows fledgling companies to interact with potential investors and receive feedback from experts. The Startup Weekend Hong Kong Bootcamp is also being organised with Startup Weekend Hong Kong, to allow young entrepreneurs to compete and brainstorm with others. Another new event is Pioneer Meetup which offers aspiring businesspeople a forum to exchange ideas with young leaders and successful entrepreneurs. For start-ups looking to hire staff, Start-ups Meet Talent, is being organised with WHub, and a Fund & Mentor business matching event will offer a platform for start-ups to explore cooperation with potential investors and partners.
This year’s Entrepreneur Day will see the launch of The Imaginarium Zone, featuring 60 technology and innovation start-ups in the fields of medical technology and biotechnology, financial technology, environmental technology, Internet of Things (IoT), AR/VR, artificial intelligence and robotic technology.
